Panico: nosografia di un'entità, clinica di un disturbo

Abstract

Il disturbo di panico non è sempre stato riconosciuto come condizione esclusivamente psichiatrica. La ricerca in ambito clinico si è sviluppata sia in ambito medico che psicologico fino al 1980, quando lo sviluppo dei criteri diagnostici e statistici del DSM -III ha identificato il concetto generale di disturbo di panico. Questo articolo sintetizza brevemente la storia del disturbo fino alla sua attuale formulazione secondo il DSM-5 e fornisce elementi di diagnosi differenziale con gli attacchi di panico, l'agorafobia ed i disturbi da uso di sostanza e dipendenza. Gli autori delineano anche una cornice per comprendere il ruolo della cognizione, delle emozioni e dei sintomi fisici nella patogenesi del disturbo. Sono inoltre riportate le raccomandazioni per un'appropriata farmacoterapia.
