Expo Milano 2015: effetti sulle performance delle strutture alberghiere

Abstract

I grandi eventi possono determinare significativi effetti sulle performance delle destinazioni turistiche e delle imprese che in esse operano. Tuttavia, in letteratura si è posta maggiormente l’attenzione sui fattori non economici generati da queste “special occasion”. Il presente articolo vuole contribuire a colmare questo gap, esplorando i benefici economici generati dall’esposizione mondiale “Milan World Expo 2015” sul comparto alberghiero di Milano.
L’articolo, partendo dagli studi pregressi che hanno analizzato le forme di stagionalità in questa destinazione, configura quattro periodi, identificati considerando soprattutto i segmenti attratti dalla Città (business, fieristico e leisure). La base dati utilizzata (STR) consente di disporre di informazioni giornaliere relative a occupazione, tariffa media (ADR) e RevPAR e permette di sviluppare un approccio longitudinale (periodo 2004-2015).
Le evidenze emerse suggeriscono il rilevante impatto generato da Expo sia sulle stagionalità, sia sulle performance operative. Con riferimento a queste ultime, il RevPAR è cresciuto, in termini reali, del 68% considerando il dato di partenza (2004) e del 50% rispetto al 2014. Non meno importante è la crescita della saturazione della capacità ricettiva (+25%) e del prezzo medio reale (+34%).
